Robin Schiff: Pilates Through the Alexander Technique
This is an introduction to the combination of Pilates and the Alexander Technique. We will be using our Alexander principles as the underlying coordination for exploring Pilates-based fundamental movement. The combination gives us an opportunity to inform, enhance, and play with how we (or our students) use our minds and bodies while beginning to gently activate and strengthen as desired.
After a brief demonstration, you’ll start in semi-supine – on your back, knees bent, head comfortably supported. You’ll spend a bit of time in that position. You may be on your side for a bit as well, but only if you find it to be comfortable.
Please bring a yoga mat or rug, one or more books for head support, and two throw pillows if convenient. Have space to take your arms out to the sides and your legs down on the mat.
