Judith Stern PT: The Mind/Muscle Continuum...the Physiology of Thought

The mind/ muscle continuum is a concept I developed while teaching my Anatomy class at The American Center for the Alexander Technique in the early 1990's. It helped our trainees clarify what happens to a student "physiologically" when they have an Alexander lesson. I began teaching this material, influenced by my mentor Debby Caplan. These ideas were a constant conversation between us as we blended our medical experience and education with our AT experience and education. "What actually happens at a cellular level when a student experiences pain relief or reduced tension or even joy".

Since that time I have shared these ideas with many AT teachers at AGM conferences and Congress' ... and now the scientific underpinnings of the Alexander Principles are being studied by experts in our field. These are exciting times for our work and I trust you will enjoy learning about these concepts with me and sharing them with your students to enhance their understanding in their lessons.
