Dr. Jack Stern, MD PhD: Alexander Technique and Low Back Pain

The AT has been shown to be an effective treatment for low back pain. Yet, many Alexander teachers are reluctant to treat individuals with this condition.

It is my opinion that the reason for this reluctance is: 

1. Alexander teachers are insufficiently versed in the various factors (Pain Generators) that cause low back pain; and 

2. that the AT can effectively address those factors

The goal of the workshop is

1. to review the spinal pain generators, 

2. how pain generators manifest themselves clinically 

3. how they can be identified by the Alexander Teacher 

4. and which are likely to improve with the Alexander Technique
