Heidi Brende Leathwood: Bringing My Whole Self to the Table
“Coming to the table” at best implies a meeting of the minds and a collaboration. But can that ideal be realized? Important events often loom large in anxious anticipation or regretful post-event rumination. Conflicts both predictable and unexpected can come up. In this workshop, we will use active rest and “hands on the table” to prepare for bringing our whole selves into communication in small groups.
In our small groups, the plan is to talk first of non-charged issues (small talk) so we can warm up our thinking and awareness. From there we will explore subjects that have more emotional color. We will avoid topics that can be controversial or difficult, such as politics. If time, discussing various Alexander Technique jargon alternatives could serve as practice in a topic in which there may be varied perspectives and stronger feelings. The aim is for participants to practice being aware of body/brain reactions while interacting in a non-threatening setting, which can then be practiced for other applications in your own life.
