Tim Cacciatore and Patrick Johnson: The Challenges and Rewards of Connecting Science and AT
In this talk we will discuss our experiences giving rigorous workshops on the science of the Alexander Technique to hundreds of Alexander teachers. We will discuss our approach, example explanations of AT phenomena, and some surprising insights we’ve come away with.
We have been giving these workshops for over 6 years to teachers, trainees, and enthusiastic students all over the world. Our program is unique in its reference to current, peer-reviewed experimental science. The investigations of Dr. Cacciatore and colleagues serve to provide a general framework. In addition to the science underlying AT phenomena, we hold in-depth discussions, compile participants' own AT experiences and help teachers communicate about practical work in simple, jargon-free terms. This combination has helped participants with understanding, communicating, and even practicing the AT. Delivering these workshops has provided some unique insights into the AT community.
We will leave plenty of time for Q&A on the general topic of connecting science and AT.
